About Mugg & Bean

The story began in the hands of Ben Filmalter back in the early 90s on a visit to Chicago’s South Side of Chicago.

He was there with his wife Judi when they came across the small coffee shop that was unmatched in their level of generosity.

After returning to their home in Cape Town, he opened the first Mugg and Bean coffee shop in 1996.

Mugg and Bean’s Mugg and Bean menu is the first restaurant in South Africa to serve bottomless coffee. They also have large portions of food for purchase.

In just seven years, the chain that was growing fast was now operating over 80 locations across the United States.

Much of its success is due to Ben’s vision of not just constructing an espresso bar but also one that people could visit as customers and leave with friends.

Unfortunately, Ben recently passed away in the year 2016. However, his legacy will live on.
Alongside their endless coffee, delicious and large portions of food, there was nothing to stop them from now.

There are currently more than 220 places across the globe serving delicious breakfast, coffee and lunch waiting for you to eat.

Another restaurant that has been growing at a rate that is comparable to or perhaps faster than Mugg and Bean is RocoMamas.

The distinctive smash burgers on the RocoMamas menu are a hit, with hundreds of South Africans streaming through their doors each day.
